Dear Parents and Carers,

Here are some updates for the week beginning Monday 20th October 2025.

UPDATE 20/10/25 I will now be out of class on Tuesday from 9-11.30am instead of Wednesday. I will be out Friday as before.

Well done everyone for such a great start to the year! We are just one week from half term and a well deserved rest.

This week all classes will be taking part in a Times Tables Rockstar battle. We will be battling it out in allocated times at school but please encourage the children to log on at home as well. We would love to finish this half term victorious!! Children that log on four times or more each week receive four dojo points so all to play for!

Monday - this Monday the whole school will come together and watch a live streamed musical concert performed by musicians at 1.15pm. It should be a really excellent experience. We will be doing this roughly every half term and have a diverse range of music coming up to enjoy.

Tuesday - I will be out from 9 till 11.30am for ECT time - this will be covered by Mrs Harrison.

Parents are also invited in from 2.45pm to talk about the work we have been doing so far.

Thursday  - I am out in a meeting from 2pm till the end of the day which will be covered by Mrs Harrison.

Friday - this will be a non-uniform raffle day where children can bring in donations for a school raffle themed around their class colour - Swan's is yellow. Children can wear any colour clothing on the day however.

I will also be out for PPA time from 9 - 11.30am which will be covered by Mrs Harrison.

Homework

This is to be completed weekly and consists of:

  • Reading at home (4 times or more per week would be amazing!)
  • Spelling Shed - children will be set weekly homework to consolidate the week's learning. They should be accessing this for the homework but also a wide range of education games based around their spelling 4 times a week.
  • TTRS - (4 times or more per week would again be brilliant!) These do not need to be much longer than 3 minutes per day - little and often! We will sometimes have times table "battles" against other classes so please encourage your children to have a go!

Percentages of children who do each of the above 4 times a week or more are read out in our Celebration Assembly each week and dojos are on offer for these so please encourage your children to have a go.

Learning

This information will be updated every half term.

During Autumn 1, we will be learning:

  • Maths - we will be focusing on place value
  • English - we will be looking at The Enormous Turnip story through story mapping as well as writing poetry and information texts.
  • Science - we will be exploring habitats including the life processes of all living things.
  • RE - we will be exploring how people can express commitment to a religion or world view in different ways.
  • Geography - we will be learning about the seasons and becoming meteorologists.
  • Design Technology - we will be creating moving monster mechanisms.
  • PSHE - we will be discussing families and relationships with the people who care for us.
  • Music - we will be learning about notation as well as how we can explore feelings through music.
  • Computing - we will be exploring the digital world of computing systems and networks.
  • French - we will be learning our numbers, greetings and how to ask for and give our names in French.
  • PE - we will be developing our fundamental skills such as sprinting as well as learning some new gymnastic ones.

It is going to be a busy but very fun half term!

PE days

These are Monday and Thursday.

Please ensure PE kits are kept in school and earrings are removed as well as hair being tied back. Thank you.
