Dear Parents and Carers,

Updates for week commencing Monday 28th September 2026:

UPDATE

Wednesday 30th - I will be out of class for PPA and subject leadership time  all day. Supply to cover (TBC)

Friday 2nd - To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Berlesduna Trust, the school will be holding a tea party with games and cake on Friday afternoon!

PE lessons will be on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure children have their full PE kit in school at all times, that earrings are removed and that long hair is tied back. Thanks.

Homework

This is to be completed weekly and consists of:

• Reading at home (4 times or more per week would be amazing!)
• Reading records should be brought into school every day but must be in on a Thursday as this is when we count the children's reads for the week.
• Spelling Shed - children will be set weekly homework to consolidate the week's learning. They should be accessing this for the homework but also a wide range of education games based around their spelling 4 times a week.
• TTRS - (4 times or more per week would again be brilliant!) These do not need to be much longer than 3 minutes per day - little and often! We will sometimes have times table "battles" against other classes so please encourage your children to have a go!

Percentages of children who do each of the above 4 times a week or more are read out in our Celebration Assembly each week and dojos are on offer for these so please encourage your children to have a go.

Learning

For the first half of the Autumn term, children will be learning the following:

Maths: We will be covering place value and addition and subtraction.

English: We will be writing a narrative based on a short story called Earth Story, as well as writing a letter based on a book called Dear Earth.

Whole class reading: Our class book will be Amazing Grace and we will also be covering stand alone texts focusing on The Arctic, migration and poetry. 

Science: We will be learning about movement and nutrition by focusing on animals.

RE: Our question we will explore and answer is How do Christians belong to their faith family?

Geography: We will be researching and learning about the differences between hot and cold places.

Music: We will be exploring dynamics, sound patterns and call and response in a topic based on Animals.

Art: We will be developing our drawing skills.

PSHE: Our focus will be on healthy minds and bodies and how we can best take care of them.

Computing: We will looking at coding using the Scratch program.

PE: We will be learning net and wall games and also focusing on netball.

French: Year 3 will be learning French greetings.

These are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please ensure PE kits are kept in school and earrings are removed as well as hair being tied back. Thank you.
