Homework

We are starting to use the Spelling Shed platform to support our children in their learning of spellings. Each child has been given a log in and some activities to complete each week. Please let us know if you are experiencing any technical difficulties.

Everybody needs to use T rock stars each week to practise their times tables facts.  It is recommended that you break the time spent on TT Rockstars into smaller chunks, rather than one long session. We recommend spending about 10 minutes each day.

It is very important that your child continues their reading. Each child should read five times a week for at least 15 minutes. (Some children reading longer books may need to read for longer.)

Summer 2

English:  We will be writing narrative texts from an alternate point of view and looking at free form poetry.  We will be using Spelling Shed to support our learning of spelling words and each child has been given a login.  Please make sure you have attempted the activities each week.  Children will get a house point for everytime they have logged on.

Children should be reading 5 times a week at home - this doesn't have to be out loud, especially if your child is a very independent reader, but please support your child by discussing their books with them. We are checking the books every Monday and giving house points to those that achieve this.

Maths: We will start by finishing our work on shape and geometry. We will then be looking at calculating with decimals, time, money and (as the term draws to an end,  revising work from the year.

Science: We are continuing  of Mixtures and Separation. focussing on dissolving and evaporation, before moving on to our new topic of Humans: A timeline. (One of these lessons will revise work from our RSE lessons about puberty.)

RE: We are continuing to look at the at the big question: What does sacrifice mean? This will involve looking at how sacrifice has meaning for a number of religious and non- religious organisations and how we can apply ideas to our own lives.

History:  How have books changed over time? We will be looking at how the history of the written word has developed over time and is continuing to change today.

Art/DT: We will be finishing our Art unit, I Need Space.  We will then be starting our DT project of Bridges. We will investigate different types of bridges and build some oof our own.

Music: We have begun rehearsing for the junior music festival. Children will receive copies of song words to take home to help them learn. Alongside this, we would also be continuing our practical music lesson.

PSHE: How can we manage risks on our environment?  We will be looking at our everyday environment. As our children are becoming more independent, it is important that they recognise where risks can occur and how they can manage these risks to continue their everyday lives. We will be looking at risks in the home and classroom environment, as well as in the digital environment.

PE:  We are continuing our practise of athletics and later in the term will be moving to learning about cricket.  This will include fielding and batting skills, as well as more focus on teamwork.

French: We'll be continuing to learn vocabulary for seasons of the year and weather. Later on, we will be talking about holidays, sports and hobbies.

Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays.  Please ensure that you child has the correct PE kit, including PE trainers. We are hoping to do the majority of our lessons indoors, but if we need to move outside, it is important that they have joggers/leggings and a jumper if the weather turns cold.

Please make sure your child has a pair of trainers for PE that are different to their school shoes.
