Homework
Your homework this week is to spend some time on TT Rockstars and to read. It is recommended that you break the time spent on TT Rockstars into smaller chunks, rather than one long session.
Suggested timings: Reading five times a week for at least 15 minutes. (Some children reading longer books may need to read for longer.) TT Rockstars five times a week for at least 10 minutes.
Here is a link to a times tables practice page called URBrainy. This give a good approximation of what the Year 4 MTC will be like in the summer term. You do not need to set up an account or password and, even better, it's free! (If the link doesn't work, please copy and paste into your search bar.)

Our PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays. Please ensure that you child has the correct PE kit, including PE trainers. We are hoping to do the majority of our lessons indoors, but if we need to move outside, it is important that they have joggers/leggings and a jumper if the weather turns cold.
Spring 1
English: We will be writing narrative texts based on a first person narrative extract from James and the Giant Peach, focusing on setting description and use of dialogue. We will also be looking at non-fiction text types, recounts and poetry. During our lessons, we will be teaching spelling rules and covering grammar objectives. We will continue reading Charlotte's Web by E. B. White as our class book, as well as studying some none fiction and poetry in Reading Skills.
Maths: We will continue looking at multiplication and division; this will include using formal calculations. Later in the term, we will be learning fractions. All of these skills rely on having a good working knowledge of your times tables so please keep up with the TT Rockstars!
Science: Our topic is Life Cycles and Reproduction. We will be comparing the similarities and differences between plant and animal life cycles. We will also look at how plants reproduce in different ways.
RE: We are investigating the big question: How do religious groups contribute to the wider society? We will be taking a look at how religious groups interact with the culture around them and the positive inputs provided to those in need.
Geography: How is our country changing? We will be taking a look at our country and discover the way that changes in our local environment impact on everyday life. We will be comparing these with other locations around the country.
ART: We Are Sculptures. We will be investigating how to turn 2d designs into 3d sculptures using a range of materials. We will also have the chance to look at the work of famous sculptures to inspire our ideas.
Computing: How can we stay safe online? We will be looking at various aspects about how to keep safe online. The topics covered include spotting spam emails, how to create strong passwords and how to spot fake or altered content.
Music: Our unit is about combining elements to make music. We will be learning to sing and play a variety of tuned and untuned instruments during our unit. We will have the chance to assess our learning as we go through the term.
PSHE: How can we help in an accident or emergency? We will be investigating how to stay safe when out and about and within the home. Children will learn how to spot a safety hazard and how to respond appropriately.
PE: Our focus for this half term is Outdoor And Adventurous Activities - alongside our sporting skills, we will be participating in group and paired challenges designed to develop communication and team work - valuable skills needed in any team game!
French: We will be looking at the vocabulary used in describing family members and pets. Children will have the chance to speak and write simple sentences in french, and learn to ask and answer questions.
