More Information on the Curriculum we use...
Whenever possible, children are taught in mixed ability groups. However there are times when it is appropriate to group children by ability.
The school provides a broad, balanced, relevant curriculum with due regard to the ability to each pupil. At all times pupils are encouraged and are expected to produce their best efforts. The curriculum is meticulously planned and is consistently monitored and improved. The nationally defined curriculum provides the basis of our school curriculum which is theme based as much as possible, in accordance with legal requirements.
We firmly believe in the development of key skills of literacy and numeracy and a significant amount of time is spent on these areas. In addition to the “core” subjects of English, mathematics and science; Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Religious Education are given relevant prominence. History, geography, design and technology, art, music, physical education, Personal, Social, Health education and French as well as a variety of cross curricular themes and topics also form an integral part of the curriculum.
The school uses a variety of approaches to teaching phonics and reading and subscribes to Pearsons Phonic & Bug Club schemes.
We use a variety of teaching methods and strategies that are underpinned by appropriate, accurate and relevant assessment.
We endeavour to ensure that parents/carers are informed of topics etc. at the beginning of each term when we send out information about homework.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
